Prince William and his newly titled bride, the Duchess of Cambridge, kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, watched by thousands of cheering well-wishers."

Prince William and Kate Middleton have kissed twice on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after their wedding service in Westminster Abbey.

They were cheered by 500,000 well-wishers who gathered outside the palace, as RAF planes flew past in honour of the new royal couple.

Police estimate a million people lined the procession route from the abbey to the palace.

The bride will now be known as the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Queen is hosting a buffet reception at the palace for 650 guests.

  • According to a lip-reading expert, Prince William told his bride she looked "beautiful" as she joined him at the altar. Tina Lannin, of O'Malley Communications, also said he joked to his father-in-law Michael: "We're supposed to have just a small family affair"
  • The fly-past involved Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
  • The busy schedule began when guests start arriving at the Abbey from 0815 BST. Many had been queuing before the Great North Door opened
  • A Rolls-Royce picked up Miss Middleton at the Goring Hotel, where the Middleton family were staying, at 1050 BST, and the ceremony got under way just after 1100 BST. Prince William travelled to the Abbey with his brother and best man in a Bentley
  • Out of the 1,900 guests at the Abbey, 1,000 were friends and family, who had been given some of the best seats in the house. The others included overseas royals, politicians from home and abroad, military personnel and representatives from various faiths and charities
  • After the service, the newly-weds travelled in an open-topped carriage for the 15-minute journey from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, past some of London's most famous landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Horse Guards Parade
  • More than 1,000 military personnel and musicians lined the procession route
  • Thousands of street parties are being held around the UK, and big screens have been put up in many towns and cities. The BBC has been bringing viewers and listeners comprehensive coverage across TV, radio and online, both in the UK and around the world
  • 5,000 officers were on duty, with more than 900 along the wedding route
  • Police have made 43 arrests in and outside the security zone and questioned masked protesters in central London.
  • About two square miles of central London have been closed to traffic.
  • Royal officials said the couple were involved in planning their wedding day, from the music at the ceremony to the flowers and the cake.
  • Inside Westminster Abbey, an avenue of trees lined the red carpet leading up to the altar.
  • The bride walked up the aisle to coronation anthem I Was Glad, by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, from Psalm 122. Her brother James Middleton gave the Lesson, reading Romans 12: 1-2, 9-18.

Listen in to the magical GRAMOPHONE of SHALU FAISAL

Hello Shalu,

I have a surprise for you today!
I heard you say that we can never listen to the same GRAMOPHONE show again! I wanted to prove you wrong. You can do that here.

I keep listening to the messages of your passionate listeners around the world, which you read out even more passionately, adoring your GRAMOPHONE as if it is something they love more than anything else in their life.

To many of your listeners, the two hours magic spell they fall in to with GRAMOPHONE, through your sweet voice and soothing words and endearing songs of yore you play on their requests, taking them through memory lanes, is like the precious moments they get to spend with their sweet heart, on secret rendezvous!

For each of them, the first encounter with GRAMOPHONE brings nearly the same sweet surprise when one gets that first glance, quite unexpectedly and unwittingly, when something tells you that you are made for each other, that this is where your heart will rest in passion, peace and joy!

Then there is the frantic search to find each other again, eagerly and anxiously searching all over the place to find that lovely radio station, hiding that sweet heart who has got in under your skin. At last you feel lucky you found a lost love and heave a big sigh of relief when you hear that sweet strains of GRAMAPHONE.s music agin on the air!  After a couple of listening sessions, the desire to meet and be with each other again like two people in love grows in to an obsession. Days and weekends are spent restlessly and impatiently just for the brief two hour rendezvous, where you blissfully forget the rest of the world.

Day after day, you wait in sweet anticipation for GRAMOPHONE to arrive, wondering what will be the colour of the dress, the hair style and the mood. At last you behold the arrival with immense joy and relief that it is here and real, eagerly devouring each beating of the eye lashes, movements and expressions on the face and the occasional Jingle of the bangles with the gentle movements of hands.

As you settle down, you wonder who you are going to talk about, what sorrows and joys will be shared, which corner of the world your mind will be taken to wander about, what music your ears will be feasted up on.

Then slowly but surely, as the dusk slips in to a silent nightfall, you are taken in to a most wonderful and romantic experience, gently fondling hitherto untouched corners of your heart and psyche, like an unwritten classic you never read, like the colours splashed and pasted on a canvass by a master before your eyes.

Beats of a guitar and notes of a piano come in from somewhere a like a passing breeze, gently moving the silk and spreading the sweet smell of perfume, reminding the presence of someone by your side. Even the jingles and pronouncements pass through the ears, without offending, like little intrusions of a woman selling jasmine flowers or like the little boy pedalling warm peanuts on a beach. You even welcome the breather, to wonder what little piece of joy or sorrow will be shared with you next.

You forget everything, you don’t even dare to get up or move lest you miss a word, a note or melody, like a child looking out of the window of a train moving through a wonderful landscape.  Slowly, you start to feel the elation, the fulfilment with joy of a lazy wanderer who has no desire to stop but must rest somewhere!

Then, sadly but surely, you are reminded  that it is time to part, however much you  wish it didn’t end, only to be consoled by an assurance to meet again soon.

Thomas Edison wouldn’t have in the wildest of his dreams, imagined that the wonderful GRAMOPHONE he invented will one day come to represent tender feelings of love and romance of the entire world in this way!

GRAMOPHONE - A magical Radio Show by Shalu Faisal on HitFM Dubai.

GRAMOPHONE is a wonderful and UNIQUE radio program everyone must listen at least once in their life!

You can listen to GRAMOPHONE at http://goo.gl/zkl9 between 10 and 12 PM Dubai time, in which SHALU FAISAL magicallly gets in to deepest corners of minds of her listeners with her soothing words and elicit the most secretly guarded talents to open up and bloom in wonderful snippets of poetry and words of expressions of pain, love, affection, and pangs of separation and loneliness.

I think (I am sure a lot of people must have told this before) GRAMOPHONE is a UNIQUE programme as far as I know in any language anywhere in the world, (please correct me if I am wrong) because what is broad cast is actually a collection of wonderful feelings, thoughts and expression of emotions of human beings revealed to a very trusting friend.

As far as I know there is no other show which do that so touchingly and beautifully.

GRAMOPHONE episodes must be saved for the posterity to listen so that, in a very very far future, if the humanity for some reason will be dehumanized and lose tender emotions, GRAMOPHONE will remain to remind what humans could really be like.

In fact you don't have to look in the future, the world we live in is already in need of the soft touch of GRAMOPHONE to soothe the horrendous wounds it inflicts on itself.
