More than just a curiosity and a degree of conviction based on the life of others or the urge of an inquisitive researcher to find out the veracity of Vedic astrology, it was a piece of news which brought me to this post.
The finance minister of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, ruled by the BJP, which stands for Hindu values and tradition, has resigned over charges of sodomising a male servant.
For a country like India where any discussion of such realities of modern society and life is taboo even in the 21st century, the news must be shocking for many and hardly mentioned even by political opponents except reports by some channels which try to drag out India to the modern world
.
It is stated that his party, the BJP, had a year ago suppressed similar allegations about this veteran politician who has been elected several times to represent his constituents and had been a long serving finance minister.
Nevertheless, it wouldn't have been very surprising for anyone who would have been observing the buzz and chatter over the social web.
At least on the social networks, the sub continent is not far behind the rest of the world in matters relating to sexual orientation of people and the acceptance of deviations in society. The social web seems also more open to discuss and accept such details of the lives of great leaders and celebrities, which would have been unspoken before and still taboo in mainstream media.
The sexual orientation and deviation of Karamchand Gandhi, a leader revered as the Father of the nation by millions of Indians for a few generations now, though kept suppressed for several years after his death in India, have appeared recently in the press and media.
Last year a set of private letters written by Gandhi revealing purportedly homosexual relations with a German architect, Kallenbach, were put up for auction in London by a private collector and subsequently acquired by the Government of India.
The pair lived together for two years in a house Kallenbach built in South Africa and pledged to give one another 'more love, and yet more love . . . such love as they hope the world has not yet seen.'
The extraordinary claims were made in a new biography by author Joseph Lelyveld called 'Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India' which details the extent of his relationship with Kallenbach like never before.
Two years back a book titled "Thrill of the chaste: The truth about Gandhi's sex life" made headlines around the world with captions like:
With religious chastity under scrutiny, a new book throws light on Gandhi's practice of sleeping next to naked girls. In fact, he was sex-mad, writes biographer Jad Adams.
According to Jawaharlal Nehru, independent India's first prime minister, Mahatma Gandhi's pronouncements on sex were "abnormal and unnatural" and "can only lead to frustration, inhibition, neurosis, and all manner of physical and nervous ills... I do not know why he is so obsessed by this problem of sex".
Though barely know and discussed during his lifetime and suppressed for half a century after his death, his troubled marital relation and his experimentation with bisexuality have become undeniable facts of life, like for example the homosexual travails of the Finance Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
Proponents of Vedic astrology have always placed great importance to the Gaja Kesari yoga, which is a rare and auspicious relative positioning of Jupiter and Moon, present in the Hindu Vedic Horoscope of Gandhi, attributing his great leadership and affection of masses he mustered during his life time to its presence.
So is there a similar combination of planets in his horoscope which can explain his emotional upheavals, sexual travails and adamant nature and extra ordinary will to openly experiment with his sexuality?
No one seems to have even dared to probe this in the past. However with more and more enthusiasts of Vedic astrology delving in to its depths, especially with modern technology and computing power and data analysis, it seems there are plausible explanations.
It could very well be the combination of Moon and Rahu in his horoscope which is after all responsible for this aspect of Gandhi's life. According to experts such combination can bring about a person to feel subjected to inexplicable powers making them commit inescapable deeds and actions or be subjected to inhumane emotional upheavals. According to one
They always have some ghost in their heads: it could be some interest in something like sports, politics, study some subject etc and they will pursue it with GREAT PASSION, Force and Energy and CONVICTION. Chandra-Rahu is often considered as targeted by asantushta aatma (a troubled soul). There is a great fear of unknown but at the same time there is a HERO that is always lurking in them. Fight or Flight question always results in FIGHT for them.
Perhaps some of Mahatma Gandhi's fanatic behavior was a matter of the Moon with Rahu as much as being caused by any mere Libran trait of zealousness. The Moon with Rahu indicates that, as is the case with many great achievers, he was a misfit of sorts.
Karamchand Gandhi is not the only great soul who seems to have borne the brunt of this amazing afflicting or great combination of planets. Astrology enthusiasts point out its presence in the horoscopes of some great achievers like Sachin Tendulkar and Aiswarya Rai. Some western exponents of Vedic astrology have discovered the combination in the horoscopes of celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Tony Blair.
After all if Gaja Kesari Yoga, a combination of Moon and Jupiter, harbinger of prosperity, can bring about great things in the life of people why not a combination of Moon and Rahu, an enigmatic concept in Vedic astrology used to explain the troubles in human life be trusted to account for unusually strange human behaviour?
